Melbourne psychedelic army King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announced the release of seventh studio album, Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, last month and they’ve now unveiled the latest cut to be taken from the record, titled ‘Trapdoor’.

‘Trapdoor’, which you can check out below, follows on from the release of the album’s title track. With its chugging rhythm and urgent flute riff, ‘Trapdoor’ sounds like the theme tune to a forgotten 1960s fantasy-horror show.

“I always wanted to be a band where you would expect the unexpected each time, with each album being treated like a different phase,” frontman Stu Mackenzie said of the band’s sound on their new album, which stuck to a formula of “acoustic guitars, flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drum kit, clarinet”.

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon continues King Gizz’s hot prolific streak, coming just seven months after their last album, the acclaimed and ambitious Quarters! The band’s latest effort is ominously set to drop on Friday, 13th November.

Meanwhile, the band recently announced a national tour with mysterious Swedish outfit Goat. The band’s national tour kicks off at Melbourne venue the Croxton in December, before moving on to the Triffid in Brisbane and Sydney’s Metro.
