A sign language interpreter who went viral after an appearance at a recent Lamb Of God gig has been praised by the group following some international attention for her efforts.

Back at the end of June, we noted how a video had started doing the rounds of a sign language interpreter at Lamb Of God’s gig in Texas. The video showed the interpreter going above and beyond what would usually have been expected of her, as she took the opportunity to rock the heck out during Lamb Of God’s ‘Ruin’, performing air guitar, air drumming, and just being one of the most metal people you’ve ever seen.

Needless to say, the interpreter in question has since become a cult hero in the metal fanbase, receiving endless praise for her efforts on the day. Now, her translating skills have received attention from some of the more mainstream news channels as well.

Recently, US television program Good Morning America picked up the story, broadcasting a segment on the translator – whose name has been revealed to be Lindsay Rothschild-Cross – and speaking to both her and Lamb Of God’s frontman about the event.

“I grew up with Guns N’ Roses, and Alice in Chains and Iron Maiden and things like that,” Rothschild-Cross explained. “I’ve never actually interpreted for death metal though. This is the first time.”

Discussing the process of translating a gig, Rothschild-Cross revealed that prior to a performance, she does extensive research into the bands so that she can learn more about their music, their background, and the emotion that she needs to put into each of her translations.

“At first, I was honestly very nervous because I had never interpreted metal,” she explained. “The key is you have to impersonate the singer. The meaning of the song is a lot of anger. I just took on that feeling of someone that has hurt me before.”

While fans were stunned by the energy that Lindsay Rothschild-Cross showed during her appearance at Lamb Of God’s recent gig, the group’s frontman, Randy Blythe, also expressed his pleasure, releasing a statement in regards to the gig in question.

“A Lamb of God concert is a highly visceral experience for both the performers and our fans,” explained Randy Blythe. “We all feel the music together in an emotional and physical way, creating a symbiotic exchange of energy that can and does have profound effects.”

“Deaf fans are no different, and I have long been aware that hearing impaired folks can feel the vibrations of amplified sound waves from a loud P.A. system.”

“That day, there were several interpreters taking turns — they were all working hard and doing a great job, but Lindsay’s interpretation of our performance stood out to me enough that I hopped down off the stage and sang beside her for a bit,” he continued.

“Lindsay and the other interpreters became a part of that massive exchange of energy that occurs at our shows, just as important as any of us performing on stage. I hope to see her at a show in the future!”

While no footage has surfaced of Lindsay Rothschild-Cross interpreting any other gigs yet, we can be sure that she’ll probably steal the show at any performance she turns up to.
