Following her controversial remarks earlier this year, it’s hardly surprising to see a number of bands tearing into Margaret Court. With bands such as Ryan Adams, Grinspoon, and Sigur Rós all criticising the tennis legend either before or after their respective concerts at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena, reformed dance-punks LCD Soundsystem have joined the ranks, and become the latest band to share their feelings on the matter.

As Junkee reports, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy cut a quiet figure at the band’s Margaret Court Arena show last night, save for a few pleasantries here and there. However Murphy took an opportunity around the set’s halfway point to criticise Margaret Court’s outspoken stance on gay marriage.

“I’m not one to get in old people’s faces for being ignorant, but when you come after my family, my friends… you can go fuck yourself,” Murphy told the crowd.

“This seems like a really nice place to play so let’s have us come back next year, and let’s rename this place.”

Last night’s performance at Margaret Court Arena was the final show for the group’s Australian tour, which saw them headline this year’s Splendour In The Grass festival. With LCD Soundsystem’s new record, American Dream, set for a September release, we can only hope that James Murphy and co. will decide to keep good on their promise and visit Aussie shows for a return show. Who knows, maybe that time they may have renamed he venue, as per Grinspoon’s idea, to the Marriage Equality Arena. Only time will tell.

Check out ‘Call The Police’, the first taste of American Dream, below.
