The Lemonheads Meredith 2014 Sideshows have been announced as legendary indie band confirm special headline sideshows to accompany their forthcoming appearance at the annual music festival.

Ahead of performing at The ‘Sup as part of the Meredith Music Festival 2014 lineup, The Lemonheads will be playing three special concerts – presented by Handsome Tours – at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, and The Zoo in Brisbane. Full dates and ticket details at bottom.

The Lemonheads should need little introduction, with the veteran band’s only constant member Evan Dando having spent so much time in this country over the last 25 years that he’s virtually an Australian citizen.

The Lemonheads’ halcyon days were inspired by time Dando spent living here following an early tour with the band, and their seminal 1992 album It’s A Shame About Ray was largely written and set in Sydney and featured writing contributions from Smudge’s Tom Morgan and Half A Cow founder Nic Dalton (then The Lemonheads’ bassist), while their next album (1993’s Come On Feel The Lemonheads) was co-written with Morgan and also contained a track from former Hummingbird Robyn St Clare (Into Your Arms).

On 1996’s Car Button Cloth The Lemonheads’ line-up included Eastern Dark alumni Bill Gibson and the record even contained covers of Smudge classics ‘The Outdoor Type’ and ‘Tenderfoot’.

In recent years The Lemonheads have been in something of a state of flux, having released no new original studio material since 2006’s self-titled effort, but of late Dando has been holed back up in the studio with the likes of founding member and early co-songwriter Ben Deily (rejoining the ranks for the first time since 1989) and ex-bassist Juliana Hatfield (well-known for her bountiful solo career).

This December, playing alongside accomplished local acts Jen Cloher (Melbourne) and Spookyland (Sydney and Brisbane), The Lemonheads will bring us new music mixed in with the classics – it promises to be a special affair for long-term fans and newcomers alike!

The Lemonheads Meredith 2014 Sideshows aren’t the only accompanying tours from the festival’s acts; heroic Philly fuzz-rockers The War On Drugs and acclaimed Athens-based songsmith Phosphorescent are also performing Meredith 2014 Sideshows this December.
