Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low. So, tell us about yourselves…Who are you – who who? We really wanna know….

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

My name is Anita Blossom and I am Lester the Fierce.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?

When I first took an interest in vinyl, I thought I’d take the trend to the next level, so I stole a peruvian panpipe greatest hits collection from my mum – I still love it.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Feist’s Metals, Warpaint, Sebastian Tellier, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Braids, Beck, Pink Floyd…lots.

‘Home taping is killing the music business was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

Industry support is important, but I think that accessibility has obviously changed – I’m not sure if it’s better or worse, but music is an important vessel. If it’s going to change someone or help someone it shouldn’t matter how it’s transported. (I feel like I am in the top 5 of Miss World answering the hard questions.)

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to? Where was it and what was the venue?

Playschool live in concert- Blue Mountains- 1989. Benita was my hero.

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

You can download my music from bandcamp.

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

Probably Joni Mitchell. But Kate Bush made me want to write.

Have you ever been arrested?

No, but I’ve been expelled from school. Is that badass too?

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

I always drink brandy and I always wear a bit of crystal. I also like to wear lush underwear.

What’s been your most outrageous rider request?

Brandy, crystal and lush underwear.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

I think the Kins are great. And I never thought I’d think this, but I would also really like to collaborate with Lisa Mitchell. I think her voice is totally incredible and her emotional response to songs is really unique.

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.

I have my first EP The Summer Deluge which is out on November 25th. I would hope that my music would evoke a low-lit mood and maybe even you would immediately think to listen to it when it’s raining.

I am playing In Melbourne on December 1st at Phoenix Public House at 9.00pm. Interstate dates to be announced soon.
