Linkin park vocalist Mike Shinoda, along with the rest of his bandmates, has been quiet in the months following the tragic death by suicide of the band’s former frontman Chester Bennington, but a new message to fans suggests we’ll know be hearing more about the band’s future in the coming days.

Taking to social media, Shinoda spoke to fans and told them to expect news about the band some time this week.

“Good morning,” he begins. “I’m on a bit of a social media diet. Watching not talking. Stay tuned for some announcements this week.”

The announcements to come will apparently clear up questions about the future of the band, which has been left open following Chester Bennington’s passing, despite many fans hoping the band doesn’t continue on without the iconic frontman.

The band posted last month that they were organising a public memorial event for fans, and it was here that they first mentioned the possibility of a future for the band.

“Just wanted to say thank you to all our fans around the world for the tremendous outpouring of love, which has strengthened our spirit during this incredibly difficult time,” the band said. “The five of us are so grateful for all of your support as we heal and build the future of Linkin Park.

“We are working on a special public event in Los Angeles to honor Chester’s memory, and look forward to sharing details with you soon.”

It seems those details will arrive in the coming days, and we may know if the band plan to continue on in some form, or if they’re simply planning a final memorial event.

Recently, it was revealed that Soundgarden seem to have quietly drawn the curtain on their career together after Chris Cornell took his own life this year, and have no intention of carrying on without him.

“I met Ben Shepherd this morning from Soundgarden, he bought me a cup of coffee,” a fan revealed in a sad anecdote posted to his social media. “You can tell he’s hurting.

“I didn’t know who he was at first. When I asked him what he does, he said I used to be in a rock band. I asked him what band, he said Soundgarden.

“I didn’t know what to say really,” he finishes. “How sad, for him.”

Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds to Mars recently paid tribute to both of the late frontmen, as well as Prince, David Bowie and George Michael, in a touching medley, which you can watch below.
