Tour promoters Frontier Touring must be nervously watching their upcoming Meat Loaf tour and all the associated insurance underwriting, because it appears that not only does ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ star Meatloaf have serious health problems, he also has a death wish.
Not long after collapsing on stage twice in the space of a week, the singer told Piers Morgan on his CNN chat show that he wanted to go out in the most rock n’ roll way possible, by dying on stage! Asked by Morgan as to whether his recent collapses had made him question the pace of his rock n’ roll life and consider slowing down, Meat Loaf – real name Marvin Lee Aday – scotched the suggestion. He said “I’ve always said – if I’m going out, I’m going out on stage.”
Showing that he’d do anything for the love of his fans, the 63 year old singer does admit that the recent health scares have made him think that he might “slow down a little bit”, but that the moment it’s just not on his radar. “You know, I take the stage as if it’s the last thing I’m ever going to do and that’s how I perform every night… It’s probably (taught me) to slow down a little bit… “I go out on the stage as if it’s the last thing I’ll ever do”.
Apart from an upcoming Australian tour in October, which promoters say will be preceded by Meat Loaf having a holiday down under first, the singer is apparently working on three studio albums concurrently. The first of these, Hell In A Handbasket, is slated for release in February, while he also has plans for a Christmas abum to be hitting shelves for the 2012 season.
