‘Like A Bat Out Of Hell/I’ll Be Gone Before The Morning Comes’. Well if you don’t recognise those two lines you’re probably not a music fan at all, and you wouldn’t have a clue about the one, the only Meatloaf! Bursting onto the world music stage in 1977 with his landmark release Bat Out Of Hell, which saw him transform from a stage actor into multi-million selling rock ‘n’ roll icon, the album went on to sell more than 43 million copies worldwide and is the third biggest selling record of all time, selling upwards of 200,000 copies a year! Locally, it is still the number one selling international album in Australia with 1,610,000 copies sold and has been awarded 23 x Platinum status.
Following Bat Out Of Hell came a steady series of diminishing return such as as 1981’s Dead Ringer, 1984’s Bad Attitude, and the Bat Out Of Hell sequels, 1993’s Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell and 2006’s Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose. In addition to his 2010 effort Hang Cool Teddy Bear, The Loaf is preparing for the release of his brand new album, Hell In A Handbasket, out in October. On top of the tour, he’s going to continue the AFL’s tradition of cheesy half time entertainment at Grand Final as he takes up the spot of headline special guest performer at the 2011 Toyota AFL Grand Final on Saturday October 1st at the MCG.
