Let’s face it, there has always been a rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney about which city has the better music scene, but now a new documentary is set to shine a light on the Victorian capital and why it is home to the most thriving independent music community in the country.

Directed by Tobias Willis and produced by Marcus Rimondini, Now Sound is an inside look into one of the world’s most prosperous independent music communities. Documenting the music scene from 2016-2017 through interviews, live footage, and enough insight into the Aussie music scene to keep you occupied for weeks, Now Sound is an insider’s look into what sets Melbourne’s musical community apart from the others in Australia.

As the documentary’s producer’s explain, “The documentary explores how Melbourne blossomed after the 2010 Slam Rally, how to survive as an independent label, the importance of community radio, those working hard on improving gender equality, the emergence of fantastic LGQBTIA artists, our niche small festival culture and many other interesting topics throughout 2016-2017.”

With interviews from some of Australia’s most prominent independent musicians, including Jen Cloher, Client Liaison, Sui Zhen, and Kirin J. Callinan, Now Sound showcases a the countless live venues, festivals, musicians, and rallies that have made Melbourne’s music scene into what it is today. Including footage from live performances such as Gizzfest and the Reclink Community Cup, this immersive documentary is a music lover’s dream.

A self-funded venture, the creators of Now Sound have finished the first edit of the film, but have taken to Pozible to get the wider public involved. Currently looking for funds to complete the film and enter it into the Melbourne International Film Festival in March of 2018, music lovers now have the chance to get behind one of the best Aussie music documentaries in years.

With less than a month to go before the campaign ends, Now Sound is definitely on track to reach their goal of $10,000, but could definitely do with your help. With plenty of nifty rewards, including tickets to the premiere, t-shirts, and packs from brilliant indie record labels, there’s plenty of reasons to help out an awesome independent project such as this.
