Following on from last week’s news that Melbourne is now the live music capital of the world, the Victorian capital is set to receive a brand new venue next month, with a VIP party scheduled to help kick things off.

As The Music reports, St. Kilda’s Newmarket Hotel is set to open its new bandroom, The Hummingbird, on May 2nd.

“I’ve had my eye on this room for some time and am so lucky to be able to collaborate with a venue that already had a fantastic reputation for food and hospitality,” explained venue operator Heather Para.

“We are putting in an excellent sound system, re-modelling the existing stage and working closely with the chef to present a sophisticated food offering. We really will be providing something for everyone.”

Keeping with its theme of providing “something for everyone,” The Hummingbird is set to showcase a wide variety of acts, including local and international bands of various genres, including jazz and comedy as well. Needless to say, it looks set to be a huge addition to Victoria’s live music scene.

The Hummingbird is set to come into the world in a big way thanks to a special opening night party on May 2nd which is set to feature Alma Zygier, DJ and PBS radio presenter MzRizk, while comedienne Bev Killick is set to handle MC duties.
