One of the biggest days in the music calendar in Melbourne is the Community Cup football match which pits radio presenters from Triple R and PBS against local musicians to raise money for charity.

This year however the organisers have decided to expand the event and add a Sydney match to the competition. The event in Sydney will take place on 18th March at Henson Park in Sydenham and organisers are currently looking for expressions of interest from players and artists who would like to perform on the day.

Adrian Panozzo, CEO of Reclink Australia who have been the charity partner of the event since 2009 told Mess+Noise “The music industry in Melbourne have historically banded together to put on a great event in partnership with Reclink Australia.”

“For Sydney, we are looking to bring together the same team format to do battle on the paddock, have fun, and unite a mass crowd in a great cause.”

According to Panozzo thes the Community Cup helped raised more than $120,000 last year after the event attracted over 12,000 people to watch the match and watch live performances from the likes of You Am I and Tumbleweed.

But the event last year wasn’t without controversy, the after party was raided by three carloads of police in ‘response outfits’ looking to shut the celebration down.
