MIA is back with album number 3.

The rapper and singer –  real name Maya Arulpragasam – came from humble beginnings as an accomplished visual artist  before rising to prominence via file-sharing of her singles Galang and Sunshowers on the net.

Now with a couple of world tours and numerous awards  under her belt, MIA has finished recording her third record.

The so far untitled album will be the follow-up to 2008’s Kala, and is due for release in late May.

MIA told NME “I wanted it to be like, no gimmicks, it’s my third album and I have to kind of confront whether I am a musician or not… I wanted to make something that you could play that isn’t like trendy just for three months, or the length of a DJ’s attention span.”

MIA also added that she worked on the album with DJ Blaqstarr, as well as longtime collaborators Diplo and Switch.

We are oh so looking forward to one of the most anticipated releases of 2010 – what Clash records will she sample this time? Hitsville UK off Sandinista!?
