It’s really hard to look past the amazing new local music we’ve been sent again this week, so we’ve done another all local mixtape featuring Sydney pop infused act Panama and their new track ‘Magic’, Newcastle rockers The Owls, Thundamentals emcee Tu.Ka, comedy rocker Spod and Eagle and The Worm drummer Grizzly Jim Lawrie.

Panama – Magic

Led by Jarrah McCleary (formerly of The Dirty Secrets) and polished and produced by Nick Terry (Klaxons, Libertines) Panama have released a new single ‘Magic’. With all the inklings of the very best of 80s afro-influence pop (see, Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon) Panama have produced a fantastic track just in time for the warmer months.  Being released alongside two remixes of the debut tune, this one is sure to get your blood boiling and your feet tapping.

The Owls – Better Off Deaf

Kicking off with some bad-ass guitar riffing, Better Off Deaf features some iconic alternative rock characteristics, namely, overdriven guitar, bashful drumming and some killer floating vocal phrases, all coming together to create McDonough’s rocked out track. Think Queens Of The Stoneage meets Silverchair.

Tuka – Just To Feel Wanted

Fresh off his new solo album, Thundamentals MC Tuka breaks out with lead single off his album, Feedback Loop, with his upbeat jazz backed track Just To Feel Wanted. Already receiving praise across the hip-hop community, the track has been heavily rotated on Triple J with requests coming in by the dozen. The track is comfortable listening on any occasion, with really Tuka hitting his straps with this rhyme.  With more quality oozing from the remaining tracks on his latest hip-hop release, Feedback Loop is sure to get the reception is deserves.

Spod – Couple Of Drinks

An awesome return for Spod with brand new single ‘Couple Of Drinks’. Grungy as all hell with a touch of punk and possibly the best lyrics of 2012 about going out drinking with mates “Just a couple of drinks, it’s my night out don’t care what the wife thinks, just a couple of drinks I sneaking out tonight, no time to think, just a couple of drinks”. Definitely a song all married men can relate to and one I’m sure we’ll hear being sung in the pubs over the summer.

Grizzly Jim Lawrie – We Did We Do

Grizzly Jim Lawrie is just a week out from releasing his debut album I’ll Pay My Debts From The Grave on the 16 November and “What Did We Do?” is the new single taken from it. It sounds as if each instrument is played with the lightest of fingers, from the tinkling keys, light plucking of acoustic and electric guitars and even Lawrie’s voice never raises above a soothing lament. With a deeply moving horn section building the slightest of crescendos towards the end, it’s a wonder what the rest of the album will hold.
