With most people winding down towards the end of 2012, the hard working musicians are still out there slogging away bringing us joyful sounds to enjoy over holiday break! Irish five-piece Little Green Cars have delivered a cracker with ‘The John Wayne’, Waaves are back with a new track, Melbourne soul group The Perfections have a catchy new single, WA’s Love Junkies bring the rock and Better Than The Wizards deliver the funk. Enjoy!

Little Green Cars – The John Wayne

Opening with a pounding, driving beat, the debut single from Irish country-rock act Little Green Cars is an infectious, intricate tune filled with wonderful harmonies, jingly handclaps and soaring melodies. The boy-girl vocals from Stevie Appleby and Faye O’Rourke provide the centre-piece of the song, but Appleby’s vulnerable, delicate voice also shines when isolated, singing charming lyrics regarding a boy’s failed attempts to catch the eye of an American teen and being refused entry to a nightclub, apparently a true story that Appleby experienced. With such an impressive first single, the Dublin-based five-piece are certainly a band to watch in 2013.

Wavves – Sail To The Sun

Just in time for the holiday season  Wavves have released a new track entitled “Sail To The Sun” and the first minute sounds like Christmas bells mashed up with sampled public service announcements. After the formalities of tule tide timeliness are out of the way, the band launch into their signature punk-rock sounds. Despite the fact that lead singer Nathan Williams’ latest releases have been under the Sweet Valley moniker (a band he plays in with his brother) this new Wavves track doesn’t seem forced or compulsory but rather its kicking beat and strummed out guitars add a bit of holiday cheer from this holiday season’s most unlikely band.

The Perfections – Peaches

Foot-tapping from the get-go with a bouncing bass groove, ‘Peaches’ soon explodes into dirty riff guitar, a jubilant horn section and the howling vocals of lead singer Christina Arnold. A fiercely energetic ode to a lesbian lover, this isn’t a song you’ll soon forget. It sits alongside similarly infectious rock ‘n’ roll soul burners on the Melbourne six-piece’s recently released self-titled debut.

The Love Junkies – Oxymoron

If you’re looking for a relentless hard-hitting band that holds nothing back, then look no further than Fremantle’s The Love Junkies. Their brutal hooks and punk attitude are painfully addictive, and a timely reminder of just how great grunge can be when wielded properly. The average age of these wunderkids is a mere 19 years old, but their high-octane flavour of rock n roll is a refreshing breath of fresh air in a sea of jangly folk crap. Not for the faint of heart or pregnant women.

Better Than The Wizards – Don’t Give Your Love

Melbourne six piece Better Than The Wizards have delivered an indie funk explosion with their new single ‘Don’t Give Your Love’, blending pop, funk, rock, and jazz to make your ears melt. Cleverly crafted with funky bass lines, smooth jazz vocals and a catchy horn melody, this track will no doubt entice you onto the dance floor and help you get your funk on this summer, when they hit the stage at Ding Dong in Melbourne in early January.
