Former Smiths front man Morrissey has confirmed the long held rumours that he was writing an autobiography by announcing that he’s finished it! Perhaps aiming to beat former band mate Johnny Marr who is also apparently writing an autobiography in the race to the bookshelves, he told a radio interviewer that the hefty tome is about 200,000 words long.

However, Mozzer being Mozzer, he’s now wracked with self doubt as he tries to edit and trim the manuscript in to shape. He says he’s not sure why he’s written such an epic autobiography, although one would assume the rock star ego and self obsession might come in to play when dictating length. He observes “I’m really not that interesting, so I don’t know why I’ve written so much.”

He then wonders “I have been through the whole life. I just wonder if 660 pages are too much for people to bear. And then I sit down and think, well, are six pages too much for people to bear? I really don’t know. [It’s] baffling.” The book is due for release in 2012, although he is yet to announce a deal with any publisher, with one literary magnate quoted as saying that signing the manuscript would be “the fulfilment of my most pressing and persistent publishing dream.”
