Megadeth fans can expect new music from the band next year. In a recent interview with Guitar World, frontman Dave Mustaine has confirmed that the band are currently working on a follow-up record to 2016’s Dystopia. In the interview he confirmed “We have been [working on new material] for a few weeks now. All the band members are at home writing stuff and putting it in the same spot, keeping all the riffs centralized in one place. And anybody can access anybody’s stuff. And then once we’re done I’ll start assembling everything.

When asked if fans can expect to hear new music in 2019, Mustaine went on to say “Absolutely. For sure. A whole new record, I would say the chances are probably 95 percent. And at least one new song, I’d say it’s 100 percent. No question.”

Back in June, Mustaine delved into what we can expect from the forthcoming record, he had this to say:

“We’ve been putting new music up in my Dropbox. And the stuff that Dirk’s been playing along to it is scary. We’ve never had any of those blast-beat kind of things in our music before… Some of the drumming on this is mind-blowing. It’s making me a better guitar player again, which I love. But I never thought we were gonna be playing this fast or this aggressive again.”

Megadeth are currently celebrating their 35th anniversary.
