Every day we’re faced with an onslaught of album announcements so we thought we’d start sharing the soon-to-be-released love by putting together a list of the most notable and exciting album announcements on a weekly basis in our New Record Report.

Pixies
EP 2

EP2 – the second wave of fresh Pixie material has arrived with the New Year. Following familiar suit with 2013’s EP1, the latest extended-play contains but of four tracks with the unfortunate omission of Kim x 2. Regardless, The Pixies injecting their signature alternative rock back into the scene is exactly what the doctor ordered. And who better than to promote each track than The Pixies:

“Blue-Eyed Hexe” – “it’s a witch-woman kind of a song. That’s what a ‘hexe’ is, and ours is a blue-eyed hexe.”

“Magdalena” – “We had these weird Moog pedals that sounded like water. It was a very mood-based, atmospheric sound, not based on any lyrics or anything.”

“Greens and Blues” – “it can be said that this song fills the emotional niche that ‘Gigantic’ occupied, another show-closer – not that that song could ever be replaced”.

“Snakes” – “Black Francis and I started jamming it out. I had this little idea and I did that sliding guitar just to emulate a snake.”

EP2 is out now exclusively on pixiesmusic.com

Twin Forks
Twin Forks

What do you get when you throw the sweetly strained vocals of Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional) strung together in seamless harmony with Suzie Zeldin (The Narrative), supported by the skin-beating Ben Homola (Bad Books) and Johnathan Clark on bass?

Well shucks, you’ve landed yourself that quintessential Americana campfire soundtrack you’ve been quietly burning for – dreamily constructed by a contemporary folk supergroup.

Despite the quartets previous achievements in previous commitments, Carrabba affirmed on the upcoming release: “Whatever makes the audience stomp their feet and sing at the top of their lungs, that’s what I want to be doing”.

The Holidays
Real Feel

It’s been three years since beloved quartet The Holidays dropped their infectious debut record Post Paradise. At last, the four-piece have set the release date for their sophomore record, Real Feel.

Real Feel is set to reveal the band in what has already been described as a far more mature sound, enriched with comments of “pure escapism, euphoric with a sense of nostalgia”.

The recording strained the group of two painstaking years stretched over multiple continents. The Sydneysiders are stoked to announce an accompanying tour to coincide with what is assured to be one of Australia’s greatest releases of 2014.

Real Feel is out February 21st on Liberation

Seth Lakeman
Word Of Mouth

When a musician such as Seth Lakeman is so emotionally connected with their work, it’s difficult to comprehend such an artist has the ability to provide anything extra to what they’ve already dripped into previous recordings.

Then adorns the idea of taking the recording to a particular setting to enhance the entire experience. This manoeuvre has been precisely what UK traditional folk singer-songwriter Seth Lakeman has implemented for his seventh LP, entitled Word of Mouth.

Setting up shop in the stone-cold walls of the North Tamerton Church in East Cornwall, Lakeman’s latest production is set to reveal a sound “deeper and more dramatic” than any of his previous work to date.

Word of Mouth is out February 7th on Cooking Vinyl Records
