It’s on this Sunday! The Community Cup is shaping up to be the best ever. For those of you not across the whole concept, the Community Cup brings together the RRR/PBS Megahertz and the Espy Rockdogs for a day of rock n’ roll footy. The RRR/PBS Megahertz team is comprised of announcers and staff of the great Melbourne community radio stations with as many ring-ins as they can get away with, while the Espy Rockdogs feature musicians and staff who have played and worked at the Espy.

However, in controversial last minute developments which underscore how seriously the match is taken by Melbourne’s rock n’ roll community, there’s been a leak! In confidential documents obtained by the Tone Deaf news room, through a deal brokered by an anonymous middleman for a six pack and a meat pie, the Espy Rockdogs on-field starting line up has been revealed!

After a careful analysis all afternoon by the Tone Deaf senior sports writers and in consultation with our lawyers, we’ve decided to reveal them in the public interest. Before we are accused of supporting the RRR/PBS Megahertz, or pandering to a disgruntled Rockdog who missed out on selection, we want to categorically state that this decision was not made lightly by the editorial team at Tone Deaf HQ, and we’re running this in the interests of disclosure.

We can reveal Tim Rogers will be lining up for the Rockdogs at Full Forward, with Wally Kempton interchanging for him on the bench. The Spazzy sisters Lucy and Kat will be goal sneaks in the forward pocket, while Kram from Spiderbait and interchange playing coach Mick Harvey, formerly of the Bad Seeds, will be setting up goals from the other pocket. Ladies soul man Dan Sultan will assume the captaincy from the centre position, while Gun Street Girl Dave Larkin will be booting them out of centre half forward.

Will this leak send the coaches of both teams back to the whiteboard to rethink tactics? Will this put the RRR/PBS Megahertz at an advantage? All will be revealed this Sunday at Elsternwick Park from 11:00am.

This year’s entertainment features The Living End, Nick Barker & The Reptiles, The Blackeyed Susans, Little Freddie & The Pops and Money For Rope as the pre-game and half time entertainment, which beats Angry Anderson in the back of a Batmobile hands down.

The match also raises much needed money for charity partner Reclink, which is an organisation that uses sport and the arts to improve the lives of the most isolated and disadvantaged in the – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, addictions, and social and economic hardship.

A Tone Deaf tip – trains aren’t running between South Yarra and Elsternwick stations on Sunday. There will be a bus shuttle, but you’re advised to get the 246 bus down Hoddle St/Punt Rd and Hotham Street to the game, or the 67 Carnegie tram down to Glenhuntly Rd.
