A: If you’re Mick Hucknall from Simply Red, apparently you do, all within the space of three years. That entails going for it with up to three women a day, if we’re to believe the Ginger’s figures. In an interview with a UK newspaper, Hucknall admits that “A red-headed man is not generally considered to be a sexual icon.” Indeed, he’s far from proud of his efforts in putting so many notches in the bedpost it collapsed, saying “I regret the philandering. In fact, can I issue a public apology through [newspaper] the Guardian? They know who they are, and I’m truly sorry.” The flame haired singer of Simply Red attracted women like moths to a flame in the mid Eighties with his soppy FM radio soul ballads, and has sold over 50 million records to bored housewives all over the world.

He reckons “When I had the fame, it went crazy. Between 1985-1987, I would sleep with about three women a day, every day. I never said no. This was what I wanted from being a pop star. I was living the dream and my only regret is that I hurt some really good girls.” Continuing his sympathy fishing, he says there were psychological reasons behind his prodigious sexual appetite – his Mummy abandoned him. “I wanted love from every single woman on the planet because I didn’t have my mother’s love. It was an addiction that took me to my darker period from 1996 to 2001, when I really came close to the gutter – I was more into drinking than seducing.” Showing that he’s a trooper through and through or just plain dumb, he worked his way through all those 3,000 women to find out that it wasn’t worth it “as I never really got the emotional contact that I craved”.
