Much loved Sydney gig venue The Annandale Hotel is up for sale. The venue’s owners, brothers Matt & Dan Rule, who have run it since 2000, are looking to sell up. The stalwart of the Sydney live scene has been an increasingly rare sight in Sydney – a venue that is focused on live gigs, as well as proving meals.

Ever since the beloved Hopetoun Hotel in Surry Hills closed its doors in 2009 and property developer Justin Hemmes started buying up music venues to turn them in to polished floor and chrome wine bars, Sydney has been increasingly starved of places to see live music.

Oveer the years the venue has hosted a who’s who of Australian and international touring bands, ranging from The Vines to You Am I, and even Kings of Leon. However, not all is lost, as the Annandale’s owners are keen to hand over the keys to someone which will keep running it as a live music venue.

Matt Rule told a Sydney tabloid “We’re offering investors the chance to get in at the grassroots,” he said. “The great thing about it is that at the grassroots they’d be gaining a business that’s been operating successfully for over 10 years.”
