The shock announcement earlier this week that the Big Day Out would be downsizing the events in Perth and Adelaide and taking Kanye West and Mariachi El Bronx off the lineup in those cities left many Bronx fans disappointed by the move.

No other shows have been announced yet, but we recently spoke with drummer Jorma Vik who let slip that the band had been talking about doing sideshows in those cities to make up for the Big Day Out fiasco.

When asked what happened with the Big Day Out Vik replied “Yeah, I don’t really know what’s going on. It’s a little confusing to me, too. I heard that we’re not doing Perth or Adelaide which I’m pretty bummed about ’cause we love those towns. But there’s talk of doing something. I’m sure if we’re down there, we’ll make something happen.”

Yesterday Big Day Out promoter Ken West jumped on the airwaves defending his decision to change the makeup of the Perth and Adelaide legs of the festival saying it was a neccesary move after a stubborn council forced the festival to look for another venue in Perth. This had a domino effect that resulting in the downgrade in both cities. You can listen to West talk with Triple J’s Hack program here.

Mariachi El Bronx are playing the Big Day Out in Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane, and Auckland alongside Soundgarden, Kanye West, Noel Gallagher, Kasabian, and My Chemical Romance. Tickets are available from the Big Day Out website.
