After news this morning that Big Day Out had ruled out Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers to headline the 2012 event comes another hint from the organisers via the official Big Day Out Facebook page: ‘No headliner starts with a P!’, which would also rule out Pearl Jam (and thankfully Prince) from contention.

Pearl Jam have been a hot favourite today for most of the media, still left reeling after hot favourites Radiohead were off the cards. Some in the media today  continue to think Big Day Out are simply pulling our legs, Nui Te Koha jumped on Triple M this morning to tell us that Pearl Jam were out and Radiohead were back in, although given his track record over the last few months we’d be taking that with a grain of salt.

Radar Radio ran with the story announcing Radiohead were now confirmed although we think perhaps they didn’t check their sources given yesterdays events. And assuming Big Day Out isn’t pulling some huge prank on us all we’ll forgive Music Feeds for getting a bit caught up in all the media hubris, announcing today that Pearl Jam were 100% confirmed but unwilling to name their sources.

So what have we learnt from the last few days? That it’s not over until the fat lady sings, and no we’re not hinting that Beth Ditto may make an appearance. Who’ll be headlining? To be honest we’ve got no idea, but odds are firming on Soundgarden, Beastie Boys, or Arcade Fire. But really it could be anyone and we won’t know for sure until Friday morning.
