Following on from announcing the dates for its 2013 edition, Meredith – arguably Australia’s best music festival – is looking to get a disco-sized legend to play this December.

Chic ringleader, producer extraordinaire, and key Daft Punk collaborator Nile Rodgers looks set to play the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, with Rodgers’ official tour page featuring a listing for Meredith on Saturday 14th December, as Beat magazine points out.

As well as the performance on the second night of the annual music festival, the tour page also lists a number of Australian Tour dates, starting with a performance at Barrington Tops on December 5th and what is presumably Meredith sideshows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth, plus a scheduled gig as part of the Riverwood Downs Subsonic Music Festival on the 6th of December.

Meredith’s 23rd incarnation will take place this year from December 13th to 15th, and as is often the case with Meredith, last year saw a winning range of diverse acts dotted across the remainder of the bill; including Spiritualized, Primal Scream, chilltronica maestro Four Tet, Syrian party star Omar Souleyeman, sax-fittin’ legend Big Jay McNeeley (now in his mid-80s), the legendary human beatbox Rahzel & cosmix riders Earthless.

Closer to home, we had an equally strong royal flush of Australian acts. Including a winning turn from Tame Impala, the retro-fitted delights of Regurgitator, music-as-sex auteur Chet Faker, psychedlic outsiders Pond, deputies of the Dunedin-revival Twerps, peerless soul revue Saskwatch, high school heroes Snakadaktal, the rollicking Toot Toot Toots, exotic songstress Brous, Pitchfork-baiting soul punks Royal Headache more.

As our Tone Deaf reviewer wrote of the 2012 edition of the festival “there’s an imperceptible quality – a unique set of conditions honed and crafted by the intangible Aunty Meredith across 22 years to deliver arguably the nation’s best music festival.”

The rest of the lineup set to join Nile Rodgers for Meredith 2013 is expected to begin being released in early August; we can’t help but be reminded that if there’s one good thing about Meredith Music Festival, and there’s a lot more than one, it’s that you know long before the playing times are released that you needn’t bother fretting over clashes because of the one stage setup, so start your speculating, because the lineup is bound to be stellar.

So get ready for another year of BYO social lubricants, nudie runs, no lineup clashes, a spectacular light show, and the famed ‘No Dickheads’ policy because Meredith is on the horizon.
