An off-the-cuff remark from Noel Gallagher at a recent Manchester gig has cost Oasis £1.7million and the Gallagher brothers are hoping more people don`t cash their refund cheques.

Technical problems plagued the band’s hometown Manchester gig so Noel told the 70,000 strong crowd “thank you very, very much, this is a free gig. Anybody who has kept their ticket will get a refund”.

He regretted the comment the very next day when told that his mouth cost the band a million bucks.

20,000 of the 70,000 have so far taken up Noel’s offer but Oasis are hoping to sway others from going for the refund by giving them a novelty souvenir cheque which they hope they won’t cash.
