It makes sense that, if you’re hoping to impress triple j listeners with your Like A Version cover, you might want to pick a song that they like. Say, for instance, the winner of this year’s Hottest 100, Flume’s mega-hit with Kai, ‘Never be Like You’.

It’s a tactic that can backfire if you don’t hit the nail squarely on the head, but thankfully our favourite garage rock duo Polish Club have managed to do just that with their raunchy, soulful take that moves from jagged stop-start whomps to velvet-smooth moments of softness, all building to an ending that already has people making ‘Sex On Fire’ comparisons in the comments section.

This is what we like to see from a Like A Version cover: taking a well-loved song, transposing it to an entirely new genre, and making it your own. We’re hoping this one finds its way into their tour when it kicks off in May, dates below.
