The fourth in a series, this is Victoria University’s latest instalment of their in-house label compilation of original music created by students. This CD compilation is a fine showcase for local up and coming acts, the members of which are studying at Victoria University.

It kicks off in fine style with “Jackson’s Song” by local lads Passport For Amy, who performed recently in Melbourne as part of The Boroughs Festival (headlined by The New York Dolls). Passport For Amy display a strong grasp of classic pop and have a highly disctintive guitar sound to them, reminiscent of bands such as Maximo Park and U2.

The strong “Tell Me Cancer” by Forrest City Lovers is a real standout, featuring gorgeous female harmonies that remind one of classic girl pop from the 1960s, such as The Supremes. The abrupt change in tempo is a wonderful moment that throws the listener, but stays in context with the song. A very charming track.

Other highligts on this CD include “Johnny Marble” by Dirt Farmer and the beautifully rolling “Set Sail” by Whales, which sounds like Vampire Weekend at their most endearing.

This is a good CD for those interested in what is happening in regards to unsigned and under the radar acts in Melbourne at the moment.
