Melbourne-via-Wellington punks, Bakers Eddy, have been on the scene for a few years now, paying their dues and playing plenty of high-energy shows. Now, the group have just dropped the video for their latest single, ‘Sad And Happy’.

Having first formed all the way back in 2009, Bakers Eddy have been spending the last few years hitting the recording studio, having recorded their debut EP in 2015, and touring with the likes of Gang Of Youths, The Rubens, and even US visitors Highly Suspect.

Moving to Melbourne in 2016, the group joined up with Shihad drummer Tom Larkin, who took over production duties. Now, with their tunes sounding better than ever, the group’s newest video shows them doing what they do best, mixing brilliant punk tunes with tongue-in-cheek humour.

A social commentary on modern technology, the clip for ‘Sad And Happy’ showcases the group’s members as 8-bit characters as they make their way through a series of retro video game styles, all while they fall victim to the dangers of ‘dopamine addiction’. Directed, filmed, and edited by Pop Candi Animation, and featuring animation and SFX from Greg Cooper and Alex Winter, this is set to be one of the kookiest vids you’ll see all year.

“The clip was a lot of fun to make but we nearly drowned shooting it,” says the band. “There are four shots in the video where each of us neck back a stubby full of ‘dopamine juice’, but we had to do about four takes each.”

“We had to drink this shit throughout the whole day. And when we weren’t shooting we were pissing. Never been more hydrated in our lives.”

Bakers Eddy are on tour as we speak, having just wrapped up a couple of shows in Melbourne over the weekend. The group are set to descend upon Queensland in just a matter of weeks, so if you’re in the area, be sure to head along for one of the finest punk shows you’ll see this year!
