Here we have a slick live performance by Melbourne alt-rockers Canary, playing a tune from their upcoming album I Am A Lion.

‘Here We Go’ is a rollicking number that’s light on its feet, changing direction at a moment’s notice. There’s a dash of trumpet for good measure, serving as a de facto lead guitar at times, and positively shredding by the end.

Singer Matthew Kennealley describes I Am A Lion as a breakup album, its writing fuelled by negative emotion. “I was the cognitive distortions and thoughts and feelings I was writing about, or at least I thought I was. The process served to further cement this fusion of my identity with the bad thoughts I was having and the emotions I was feeling.”

I Am A Lion is out on July 8, and is available for preorder now, while their tour kicks off in August (dates below).

Tour dates:

Friday 12th August – World Bar, Sydney
Friday 26th August – The Workers Club, Geelong
Saturday 3rd September – The Toff, Melbourne
