Georgia June have been enjoying plenty of success lately in the wake of their debut single ‘Cool‘. Now, the Sydney-based quintet can prepare for even more critical acclaim as they release their punchy new single, ‘Broke’.

Having spent lived in New York City for a period of time last year, frontwoman Georgia spent this time crafting an array of tracks under the mentorship of Billboard Magazine, allowing her to fully embrace the professional songwriting experience. After having returned to Sydney and forming a band, Georgia June began to kick off their career in a big way.

The band’s second single, ‘Broke’, is a witty, resonant tale about the struggles of being money-poor in today’s society. Delivered in a punked-up manner, resembling the likes of Joan Jett and Blondie, with an affable style of storytelling, reminiscent of bands such as the Talking Heads, ‘Broke’ is easily one of the most relatable tracks you’ll hear all year.

“I feel as though the song really speaks for itself in this one,” Georgia says of the tune. “It was written when I literally had no money, wandering aimlessly around New York, and I just wrote it as a joke on how broke I was.”

“It was comical, I remember going in stores and trying things on and not being able to afford it, but still wanting it and telling my rents I was fine because I was in denial. It’s a song which I feel a lot of people can relate to at some point and just laugh about it”.

With ‘Broke’ set for release on Friday, October 27th, the group are also heading out to play some shows in support of the new tune as well. With a performance at the Oxford Art Gallery for the Rare Finds single launch this Friday night, and a spot during the Australian Music Week celebrations, Georgia June are set to officially launch ‘Broke’ at Marrickville’s Red Rattler on Friday, November 10th.

With the group showing off a brand new style of storytelling and a raucous style of performing, these will definitely be some shows you won’t want to miss.
