A Canadian rapper has tragically passed way following an incident that occurred during the filming of a new music video.

Beginning his career as a world-renowned professional skier, Jon James McMurray broke into the world of rap music while recovering from a sports injury.

Adopting the names McFee and Jon James, he released a handful of singles, mixtapes, and EPs over the years, gaining recognition for his confident delivery and strong wordplay.

However, as The Guardian notes, McMurray’s career has come to a tragic end, with the rapper passing away during an accident that occurred while filming a music video on Saturday.

“He died filming for a project he had been working on for months,” explained McMurray’s manager, Ryan Desrochers. “His final act included performing an airplane stunt that included rapping while walking on the wing.”

“He had trained intensely for this stunt, however, as Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct. Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly.”

No one else was injured during the incident, and the plane landed safely.

“His passion for making music videos and performing stunts were combined, and Jon pushed music in a new direction that was unchartered territory,” explained Ryan Desrochers of McMurray’s legacy.

“He poured his ambition for life into his music and relentlessly worked toward advancement in the music industry.”

While McMurray’s career as a rapper was his main focus in recent years, his love of action and adventure still shone though, with the rapper releasing a music video for his track ‘Hello’ a few years, featuring footage filmed during attempts at skydiving and BASE jumping.
