The narrative and mystery surrounding Nirvana’s career continue to unfold years after Kurt’s untimely passing, with sources close to the band continually reveal secrets in their grunge empire.

John Purkey, an old friend of Kurt Cobain’s who has spoken at length about the band’s history, has taken to YouTube under the name The Observer to upload rare demo tapes dating the early back to the early 80s.

The videos contain cassette audio of Nirvana during this time, apparently given to Purkey by Cobain himself. The tapes include early recordings of tracks that would go on to make Bleach, including audio pre-Dave Grohl recordings featuring Chad Channing on drums.

If you trawl through the channel, there’s almost two hours worth of Nirvana history to make your way through. Some of the material has been previously heard by fans, but nothing quite this raw and untouched. New (old) Nirvana footage seems to unearth itself every day, like this rare acoustic gig the band played in Scotland 26 years ago.
