The debut EP kicks off with thunderous enthusiasm, confidence, and portrays great consistency, however seems shadowed by the many influences that lurk behind the scenes.

These Brisbane indie-rockers are heading down an extremely viable path of marketable pop music that’s fit for the masses.

And in an industry where popularity is booming yet funding is sparse, the four-piece are making all the right moves to cement a strong, and hopefully lasting name for themselves.

Drummer Dan O’Connell describes first track, and debut single, “Keeping Everyday Alive”, as a somewhat defining song of the band’s sound.

O’Connell wasn’t speaking on behalf of the band and strongly iterated that it’s tough to generalize The Royales into a nutshell based on one song, but the rationale definitely comes close.

Third track “Tradegy” deserves a special mention as a lovable intro is slowly built into a well-structured and catchy ballad. The song captures a good deal of emotion found throughout the EP and is promising to hear.

Followed closely by the unoriginal soundscape of “Pay Attention”, some may think The Killers had more than a subtle influence on The Royales – but we’ll leave that for the listener to decide.

It’s great to hear the obvious talent and spark that each member has successfully gelled into this well produced EP, however it’s generally a sound unworthy of superior recognition.

Never the less, an exciting future awaits this young Brisbane four-piece as they strive to live a life of royalty.
