Reports that former Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall had died in one of those bizarre water sports accidents were exaggerated it seems with the singer jumping on Twitter in an effort to prove that while he is no longer relevant he is very much alive.

The hoax began when the Global Associated Press ran a story earlier that said Hucknall had been holidaying in the Turks and Caicos islands where lost control of his jet ski and ran right into a concrete embankment which killed him.

Preliminary reports from Turks and Caicos Police officials indicate that the musician struck a concrete boat slip in a marina on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Mick Hucknall was the only passenger on the personal watercraft at the time of the incident. Specific details are not yet available. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. (UTC/GMT -4 hours)

However a few hours later there was a flurry of activity on Simply Red’s Twitter account with Hucknall posting:

Last year Hucknall issued a public apology for sleeping with so many women when he was famous in a bizarre interview he gave London’s The Sun. “I regret the philandering. In fact, can I issue a public apology,” he said. “When I had the fame, it went crazy. Between 1985-1987, I would sleep with about three women a day, every day. I never said no. This was what I wanted from being a pop star. I was living the dream and my only regret is that I hurt some really good girls.”
