We’ve seen plenty of records broken in recent times, with a group of Aussie guitarists recently breaking the record for the largest electric guitar ensemble in Sydney, while another Aussie also took attempted to break the record for world’s longest guitar marathon by playing for 125 hours. Now, it seems as though the record for the world’s longest death metal show could also be broken.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, former Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes revealed that an upcoming Six Feet Under show in Russia is set to become the longest in the genre’s history.

“Our set list for our concert on October 27th in Moscow will mark the longest performance in the history of Death Metal,” Barnes wrote. “25 songs over 1 hour 30 min of music!!!!!”

“So very happy and honored to have been invited to Moscow,” he added. “This marks Six Feet Under’s first appearance in Russia, and we are gonna give all our fans who have been waiting to see us the best damn death metal show of their lives! See you soon, friends!”

After a number of Twitter users expressed their doubt at Barnes’ ability to pull off such an event, he shared another Tweet explaining that he’d just lengthened the set. “Motherfuckers want to doubt me? Just added 3 more songs to the set for our Moscow show. 28 songs 1 hr 43 min of music.”

The poster for Six Feet Under’s Russian debut indicates that the set will consist of “Killer Hits & Graveyard Classics”, indicating that the band will likely be performing a number of their most popular songs, and tracks from their Graveyard Classics series of albums. So there’s quite a strong chance that some of the band’s eager fans will be treated to quite a number of covers in their upcoming set as well.

While various musicians claim to have performed the longest gig of all time (Chilly Gonzales boasted 27 hours, while DJ Obi played a 240-hour DJ set in 2016), it’s not quite clear what is currently the longest death metal show. (If you’re wondering though, The White Stripes almost took out the record for the shortest show in 2007, when they played just one note in Canada. It was a C#, by the way.)

As Loudwire notes, American group Nile performed a 90-minute show back in 2013, though it consisted of two sets. It’s not quite clear how long Six Feet Under’s show will be, but if people keep on doubting Chris Barnes, we could be looking at a two-hour show in no time.

It all goes down on October 27th in Moscow, Russia, so let’s just hope Barnes has stocked up on some Soothers, because a show of that length will undoubtedly be rough on the ol’ tonsils.
