Thrash-metal legends Slayer appear to be getting a bit nostalgic as they get closer to wrapping it all up, sharing the first episode of a new documentary series today.

Back in January, Slayer announced that they planning to pack it all in later this year after a farewell tour. “After making some of the most brutal, breathtakingly aggressive, all-hell’s-a-breaking-loose music ever created, […] the age of Slayer, one of the greatest thrash/ metal/punk bands of this or any age, is coming to an end,” the group wrote.

At the time of the announcement, the band also shared a snippet on Facebook which appeared to be a short retrospective video of sorts, looking back on their career. As it has since turned out, it appears that this was just the first taste of a brand new documentary series.

Appearing on YouTube recently, the group released a video titled ‘SLAYER – Early Days: Episode 1’. “On January 23, 2018, Slayer announced that it would wrap up its 37 years together with one last tour around the globe,” the video’s description reads. “Before the band begins that final sojourn on May 10, Tom Araya, Kerry King, Paul Bostaph and Gary Holt sat down and talked about all things Slayer. Here is Episode 1.”

The clip is obviously a walk down memory lane for Slayer fans, and thrash-metal fans in general, so if you’re keen on a bit of reminiscing, now’s the time to head over to YouTube and start checking out what appears to be the start of an ongoing project.

Of course, Aussie fans are probably a bit more keen on the news of when Slayer might make their final appearance on Aussie shores. Former Soundwave Festival organiser AJ Maddah did seem to give fans a bit of hope when he wrote last month that he “just heard about an amazingly ridiculous metal package coming to Aus mid this year. Headliner has not been for 5 years. No, not Metallica.”

While we’ve got no confirmation that this is indeed in regards to Slayer visiting Australia one last time, we can only hope, because surely they wouldn’t miss a country that has provided them with so much love and support over the last few decades, right?
