You might have noticed that King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have been releasing quite a bit of music lately. What you might also have noticed is that they’re becoming increasingly popular with the music-loving public, with their newest record, Murder Of The Universe, charting at number three on the ARIA charts this week, and gaining some pretty amazing reviews online. But what they’ve also gained is a legion of loyal followers, including Melbourne’s The Smith Street Band, who have admitted they want to cover one of the group’s biggest hits.

Taking to Twitter tonight, The Smith Street band randomly Tweeted out lyrics to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s track ‘Rattlesnake’ before following it up with a series of gushing messages regarding the band.

Watching King Gizzard blow up makes me so happy. They’re so unique, so DIY and just wanna make their weird beautiful art without bullshit,” the messages begin. “Gives me hope that there’s still room for bands who just wanna make music and play it live in this cluttered clusterfuck of an industry. A lot of bands could take a leaf out of their book. Stop worrying about scene politics and trends. Make good shit and go on tour. It works.”

In case you thought that’s where the King Gizzard love stops for The Smithies, you’d be wrong, because seconds later, they dropped a bombshell about their potential future triple j Like A Version plans. “And I hope Triple J let us play Rattlesnake for like a version cause that would be so goddam fun,” the final Tweet reads.

While King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have been taking Aussie music to the far reaches of the world with their intense live shows and experimental approach to music, it’s fun to see that their music is still loved and appreciated by some of Australia’s other big names in music. Frankly though, we’re just really excited at the prospect of The Smith Street Band taking on King Gizzard’s ‘Rattlesnake’. You can bet that one would make it onto Like A Version 13.
