In case you were keen to head along to Western Australia’s long-running music festival Southbound, you may want to rethink your plans, as the festival has announced that this year’s edition is cancelled.

Taking to Facebook yesterday, Southbound’s organisers announced that the 2017 edition of the festival is not going to go ahead. “After 13 years of Southbound, it is with much consideration that we have decided to take a break for 2017 to focus on some exciting new projects. More on those soon,” the statement read.

“Producing such events in collaboration with our community is a huge undertaking, and one as passionate organisers we take very seriously. This time will allow us to return with a re-invigorated festival with hopefully many more memorable years to come.”

You might recall that back in January of 2016, despite announcing an absolutely stellar lineup of local and international acts, the festival had to be cancelled due to the impact of recent bushfires in the area.

Thankfully, the festival was able to return at the end of last year for another phenomenal edition, but it seems as though that’s the last one we’ll see… for a while, with festival organisers announcing that the festival is set to return in the future.

The festival’s Facebook post ends with a link to a ticket pre-sale registration page that announces a return for the festival on December 31st, 2018. The ticket registration also puts punters in with a chance to win a lifetime VIP membership to the festival. So if you’re keen to see the festival return next year, be sure to head along to this link and register for tickets.

Let’s just hope that the festival does actually come back next year, and doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the Big Day Out, which cancelled its 2015 event, but said the future was looking good for a return. With the 2018 festival season upon us, it looks as though we’re going to have to go through another year without the legendary festival.

While we wait for a return for Southbound, check out last year’s performers, Catfish And The Bottlemen, performing ‘7’ below.
