As previously reported, Spencer P Jones and The Nothing Butts are a new Australian band that are putting the super back into supergroup.

Joining Mr. P Jones, the legendary guitarist and songwriter, is James Baker of The Scientists and Hoodoo Gurus fame, along with gnarled poet Gareth Liddiard and his Drones bassist/partner Fiona Kitschin, to form The Nothing Butts.

There’s already an album in the can that promises to blend the skills of all four of its talented members. Spencer P Jones, the redoubtable, life-hardened troubadour, and former member of The Johnnys, the Beasts of Bourbon and a host of other outfits; James Baker, Painkiller, original Scientist, Le Hoodoo Guru, Dubrovnik and Jones’ contemporary in the infamous Axeman’s Jazz line-up of the Beasts; Gareth Liddiard, songwriter, guitarist, modern-day folk-punk poet and titular leader of The Drones; Fiona Kitschin, Liddiard’s partner in life and enigmatic bass guitarist in The Drones.

All combining forces to deliver “an intense collage of Jones’ tales of love, betrayal and emotional turmoil,” described as “a journey through the brooding recesses of the human psyche.”They’ll be something different for all of us and we’re only going to do this once before we go back to whatever it is we usually do

Along with the promise of a record, their self-titled release due November 9 through Shock, Spencer P Jones and The Nothing Butts will be taking the album on the road for the first and last time.

“We’re really looking forward to these shows,” says The Nothing Butts’ ringleader. “They’ll be something different for all of us and we’re only going to do this once before we go back to whatever it is we usually do. We’ve all been friends for years but never had the chance to record or tour together as a band; so this is going to be something special.”
