A couple of cheeky or simply inspired buggers at Sydney University came up with the idea of staging a student musical about the life and career of hip hop superstar Kanye West. Despite all the potential drawbacks of staging such a production, it has struck media gold, and it seems that almost every music news outlet around the world wants to know about it.

From influential music blogs such as Consequence of Sound to the likes of MTV USA, it seems everyone wants to know about possibly the first musical created about Kanye. The event’s Facebook page explains “This is a story of a struggle against the man to become the man. It’s about a guy who took a shot at the throne and didn’t miss. This is the tale of Kanye.”

So what can we expect of this student musical? Well, the producers answer a few questions. According to them, you can’t pre-book tickets, it bears a flimsy resemblance to Kanye’s life and career and none of Kanye’s songs will be used in it. For all your questions about this production which has sent European and US media in to a lather, read their FAQ section below. Kanye West – The Musical FAQs

Unfortunately no. Tickets are only available at the door.

How true to Kanye’s life is the musical?
The Musical draws from actual event in his life but it is not a biographical rendition of Kanye’s life. This is a comedy, it won’t let the truth get in the way and will be a lot of fun.

Will you be using Kanye’s songs?
All the music is original. So no Kanye tracks but they will be in the style of Kanye (inasmuch as someone can replicate the best hip-hop producer in the world)

Who is playing Kanye?
This is a two man show starring Phillip Roser and Damien Higginbotham.

How long does it go for?
Approximately one hour with no interval.

What if I don’t get a seat?
Then sorry you don’t get a seat. We are showing it on three nights so hopefully we can fit as many as possible.
