After close to two decades together, alt-rock/emo heroes Taking Back Sunday have announced that they’ve parted ways with their founding guitarist Eddie Reyes.

Taking to Facebook on Friday, Taking Back Sunday revealed the news, announcing that Reyes has left the band, only a matter of days before the group is set to head out on a European tour.

“Guitarist Eddie Reyes and Taking Back Sunday have parted ways due to personal reasons,” the group revealed. “Eddie was a founding member of the band and his contributions can be felt all along the way. John, Shaun, Mark and Adam love Eddie, wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Eddie Reyes founded Taking Back Sunday back in 1999 alongside John Nolan, Antonio Longo, Steven DeJoseph, and Jesse Lacey, who would later find fame as the frontman for emo-rockers Brand New. During his time in the band, Reyes played rhythm guitar on all seven of the band’s albums, with their last, Tidal Wave, being released back in 2016. Nolan is now the only founding member left in the band, despite a seven year absence from the group in the mid ’00s.

However, as many fans have noted on Reddit, Reyes has been appearing less and less with the band in recent years, with various musicians filling in for him at many shows. While it’s not clear why exactly Reyes has left the band, we can only wish him and the remaining members of Taking Back Sunday all the best.
