If there’s one word you could use to describe Tame Impala chief Kevin Parker right now, it would probably be “tired”. Things have been non-stop for the Perth musician ever since the release of his band’s 2015 opus Currents, which has taken Parker’s profile to the next level.

“This album was a real door-opener for me. It’s funny, but I kind of knew it would be, just because of the way I was making songs, the way I was producing it,” Parker told Noted. “I sort of sensed that it wouldn’t just be an album that came and went. I had a feeling that it would take me other places.”

It certainly has. If Parker hasn’t been on the road touring the album across Australia, North America, South America, and Europe, hitting up festivals and venues alike, he’s been working on a string of side-projects, including writing sessions with pop stars like Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga.

So it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that Parker needs a break. And he’s taking one. As Noted reports, Tame Impala’s upcoming performances at Laneway Festival 2017 will be your last chance to see the band on stage, at least for a while. They’re not exactly breaking up, but it looks like a hiatus is on its way.

“I really don’t know how that’s going to feel because in the past, the album cycles haven’t really ended with a bang, or even ended decidedly. They just sort of peter out. But this time it really is a bookend,” Parker told the New Zealand publication, who described the band’s Laneway tour as “the last hurrah”, of the Currents tour at least.

“I’m glad it’s happening at Laneway. There will be tears and cheers, and emotions will be running high. I think it’ll be quite weird, but not without a sense of accomplishment.” You can check below for the full list of dates on the Laneway 2017 tour, which also features A.B.
