We were sad to see the Shadow Electric go, but then we were happy once we realised it wasn’t really going, it was just moving venues. Now, the team behind the incredible Melbourne live music project are delivering something new altogether.

Shimmerlands is the latest project from the team behind Shadow Electric. This ambitious endeavour seeks to create an “entertainment oasis” on the edge of Melbourne CBD over the summer of 2016/17.

Kicking off New Year’s Day and running until Sunday, 26th February, Shimmerlands will establish four main precincts — The Cinema, The Pavilion, Live Music and The Food Quarter — within the grounds of Melbourne University, Parkville.

This will be an incredible two months of “film, music, art and hospitality” with daytime and evening events ranging from outdoor cinema screenings, indoor and outdoor concerts, as well as numerous dining experiences.

“The idea behind Shimmerlands was to create something new, internationally appealing and culturally relevant to Melbourne, and all within the urban gem of the University of Melbourne,” said Creative Director Jay Rayner.

Melburnians, make sure you keep an eye out for Shimmerlands this summer.
