Still one of Melbourne’s most exciting alternative rock bands, The Getaway Plan have toured with a plethora of  great bands, including, My Chemical Romance, Antiskeptic and Taking back Sunday.   Vocalist and guitarist Matthew Wright, along with Clint Ellis, Aaron Barnett and new member Jase Clarke, the band create a unique sound of seamless melodies, with razor sharp screams and irresistible pop sensibilities making them one of Australia’s top live acts.

We caught up with the new bass player for the band Jase Clarke to find out about what he loves to eat on tour, what his ultimate rider is and what other Aussie musician he is keen to dine with….

What were your food influences when you were growing up and what kind of food did you eat at home or with your family?

Growing up in country Victoria meant that all I was really eating was the standard “meat and 3 veg” diet. If there was a big family outing it was always a BBQ without fail. If it was just us at home, mostly fish and chips on a Friday night.

What dish or cuisine do you most like to eat on tour and why?

Mexican all the way for me. You can always find a great take away place or a nice restaurant somewhere and there are limitless options with food choice.

What type of food do you hate, and what is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten?

I don’t really like Chinese. It’s too fatty and the meat always has some type of body part or bone attached to it. I’d only really eat the rice.

Most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten would be Eel from a Yum Cha place in Melbourne. Made me want to gag as soon as my chopstick made contact with it.

What are your favourite tour van munchies?

On tour, I’m usually the driver so I tend to eat a lot of green apples to keep me awake. There is always an abundance of service station snacks being passed around.. Crisps, lollies, nuts, shapes. You never go hungry.

Imagine for a second you can request anything on your rider on your shows for your upcoming The Lovesick Tour. What food would you put on it?

If I could have anything, it would probably be a seafood banquet. We’re talking lobster, prawns, mussels, oysters etc. I’d make sure the vegetarian guys would have some mock lobster too. We’d have to eat it after we played though as I’d over eat.

What has been your biggest cooking disaster to date? Tell us the story.

One Christmas I cooked mussels for my whole family and when they were almost done I thought they needed a little more seasoning… The lid on the pepper came off and 200 peppercorns went into the pot. We couldn’t eat it.

What’s your favourite music venue in Australia to eat at and why?

Maybe not venue but more city? Melbourne wins of course but if we said anywhere else I’d say Sydney. Newtown has an awesome range of vegetarian/vegan food, Bondi has sweet cafes and Oxford St has all your fast food needs covered.

What would be your ideal play list to listen to when you’re cooking?

If I’m cooking for hours – The naked and Famous, Metric, Sleigh Bells

For Poached eggs – Fall out Boy, Saves the Day, Underoath

Cooking a BBQ – Madball, Outsiders Code, Warbrain

What Australian musician would you most love to cook and meal for and what would it be?

Maybe Paul Kelly.. All I would need is two slices of white bread and two sausages. Then we could just sit back and talk about life’s struggles
