Melbourne post-hardcore quartet have “so many things to announce that it’s hard to know where to start,” according to a statement from the band that appeared overnight that revealed the departure of a long-time member of the band as well as the group’s future plans as an independent outfit to release new material and dates for a forthcoming tour.

Bassist Dave Anderson, who has been part of The Getaway Plan lineup for nearly a decade, has quit the band, reveals a Facebook post from the four-piece yesterday. “Dave was an integral part of the growth of this band and we thank him dearly for everything that he’s done,” reads the statement. “We wish him the best in all of his future endeavours. All is amicable between us all and we hope to remain friends forever.”

The band have also found an imminent replacement for Anderson in ‘best friend’ Jase Clarke. “We’ve known Jase for a long time and couldn’t think of a more perfect human to welcome to the family,” they write. “Jase has already brought so much new life to the party and we couldn’t be more excited about our future with him.” “We have no one to answer to but ourselves and we feel more resilient than ever before” – The Getaway Plan

That future includes the band’s newfound status as a totally independent unit after parting ways with record label and management group, UNFD, late last year following their 2012 national tour in support of their second album and comeback record, Requiem. “We are currently an independent band and we’re loving every second of it. This is the first time in over 9 years that we have been in complete control of every aspect of the band and it feels truly awesome,” they note.

The seachange also includes the release of a new double A-side single this August in ‘Lovesick/Mirrors’ as a digital download through iTunes as well as a limited 500 run of limited edition 7” vinyl (available for pre-order through the band’s webstore), in addition to the new material, The Getaway Plan have announced the Lovesick Tour; hitting the road this August and September.

“We know we’ve been distant on the tour front these past 12 months so to make up for it we’ve done our absolute best to cover as much Australian soil as we can,” adding that “if your town isn’t listed keep an eye out as we’ll be announcing more shows in the coming weeks.”

“We have no one to answer to but ourselves and we feel more resilient than ever before,” concludes their optimistic statement. “This new release is completely self-funded and organised by us, and whilst the workload involved has been big, the rewarding feeling that comes with it has been even bigger. We have no idea where we see ourselves label wise in the future, but for now we are going to ride this wave and see where we end up.”
