It’s been big news for a while now that The Killers were hitting up Australia to play the AFL Grand Final, but the Las Vegas legends defied expectations last night by putting on a secret show in a beloved Victorian venue for a select group of fans.

For the last week, rumours have been rife that The Killers were set to play a show in Melbourne, with Triple M giving lucky fans tickets to the spontaneous show. Of course, the gig’s location was kept secret, lest the general public catch wind of it and turn it into a huge event.

As it turns out though, Brandon Flowers and co. took over Howler, in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, much to the delight of the venue’s 400 fans – a far cry from the tens of thousands of fans that the group will play to at the AFL Grand Final and on their upcoming Aussie tour.

Consisting of ten tracks, The Killers’ performance at Howler consisted of nothing but hits, both old and new. Opening with ‘The Man’ and ‘Run For Cover’ from their most recent record Wonderful, Wonderful, the group quickly tore into hits like ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘Smile Like You Mean It’, ‘When You Were Young’, and of course, closed with the modern-day classic ‘Mr. Brightside’.

If you missed out on the gig though, some fans were nice enough to take video of the performance and upload it to social media. Of course, if that just won’t cut it, check out The Killers’ free AFL Grand Final afterparty show at the MCG tonight, or catch them when they tour Australia next year for some long-awaited headline shows. (Well, long-awaited if you didn’t make it to Howler last night.)
