Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low.

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

We’ve been referred to as a “three piece mish mash metal, broken heart with a machine gun” type of band. Adrian plays guitar, John plays the drums and Carla sings over the top of it.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?

The choices were seriously limited… so I stole Monty Python Live at Drury Lane and Bill Cosby Live… oh and War of the Worlds. I’m not proud of what I did, but at least I’m prepared for alien invasion.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

What You See Is What You Get Live at Carnegie Hall- Ike and Tina Turner
Fun Stix Party- Those Darlins
The Essential Dolly Parton.

‘Home taping is killing the music business’ was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

It’s always going to be hard to police unauthorised copying… The main source of income for most bands these days is live shows and merch. There’s no point getting upset about it.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to.?Where was it and what was the venue?

House of Pain, Naughty by Nature and Coolio at the Entertainment centre round 95… This chick I went to my all girls catholic school with got pulled up on stage and was pressured into flashin’ her rack by the NBN dudes… it even made the paper the next day!

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Occasionally I’ll make a purchase from iTunes. The only way to listen to our tracks at the moment is on Facebook (www.facebook.com/enjoytherules) or for the full experience, just come to a show.

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

Tina Turner is my hero and I don’t need another one, or a way home.

Have you ever been arrested?

Yes.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

We all sit down with a cup of tea and watch an episode of MacGyver, so we are well prepared for any technical difficulties that may arise at our show.

What’s been your most outrageous rider request?

The complete box set of the 80’s hit tv show, Family Ties on dvd. Our request was denied.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

Nick Cave, ‘cos he’s the coolest. Carla also wants to be a member of Dollsquad.

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.

The next show is at Jive, a great live music venue on Hindley St. in our hometown of Adelaide next Saturday 14th of May. We’re supporting our favourite gentlemen Lady Strangelove who have been really good to us since our debut gig with them last December. The lights will be dimmed, but not too low for safety reasons. We recorded an EP at Capital Sound Studios under the expert guidance of Mike Deslandes of Coerce. As yet we have no set release date, but are looking for sponsorship from high end energy drink companies.
