Besides the sheer quality of their debut full-length album, Down to Earth, Flight Facilities have become famous for their ability to nab stellar collaborators, culminating months back in a much-publicised collab with none other than Ms Kylie Minogue.

Now they’re continuing that incredible roll by revealing that they recently hit the studio with fellow Aussie favourites The Preatures and Jagwar Ma. “We’ve been wanting to do [a track] with a bunch of people for a long time,” Flight Facilities’ Jimmy Lyell told Triple J.

“So I called Jono Ma from Jagwar Ma in the morning, ’cause he is the synth overlord. He is a mad professor in the studio, he needs a cape or something – he’s amazing,” added Lyell. Before they knew it, they were joined by Jagwar Ma’s Gabriel Winterfield and The Preatures’ Isabella Manfredi and Jack Moffit.

After packing all of their talents into the studio, Lyell says the Aussie supergroup began brainstorming “What would be the closest thing to all of our sounds put together?” and eventually came up with a list of influences that included Primal Scream, The Temptations, Donna Summer, and Grace Jones.

“I’m really interested to see what will come of it,” said Lyell. And before you think this was just an excuse for some rockstars to hang out, Lyell claims the crew will be heading back into the studio to finish off the track in the coming week, with a view to releasing it as a standalone single.

“Because with this many people involved – and we’ve all just released a record – it’ll be great just to throw it out as a standalone and do things like join each other on stage,” said Lyell. “I’m just completely talking out of my ass here; I hope everyone else is feeling the same way – but it’d be really, really cool if that kind of stuff happened.”

“Hugo [Gruzman, bandmate] and I are all about that. We’re big collaborators and we always want to surprise fans and crowds and bring people on. So we hope that eventuates,” he added. Indeed, fans are echoing Lyell’s sentiments, with their appetites whetted by an in-studio snap posted to Isabella Manfredi’s Instagram.

It’s not even the first all-star collab that Flight Facilities have worked on recently. The duo got together with Vic Mensa during the recently concluded Sydney instalment of Laneway Festival to perform a mash-up of their track Down To Earth and Mensa’s Down On My Luck.
