Having stirred anticipation since she first arrived on the Australian scene to tell us to stomp our feet like a brontosaurus, Tkay Maidza has finally unveiled the details of her debut full-length album, to be titled simply TKAY.

As we mentioned in our countdown of the albums we’re still looking forward to in 2016, few other Aussie artists have kicked as many goals as Tkay in recent years, accruing accolades and praise left and right from critics, fans, and peers.

Tkay made the big announcement on triple j this morning, confirming her debut album will be out 28th October. The album’s unveiling is preceded by the release of new single ‘Carry On’, a collaboration with Run The Jewels’s Killer Mike.

Killer Mike previously praised our homegrown emcee and vocalist as an artist to keep an eye on and as Tkay told Matt and Alex, when she approached the rapper with the offer to collaborate, “he was totally down”.

“[‘Carry On’] is kind of about me going through troubles and he acts as a big brother, which is really cool,” Tkay said of the track. “I just meet a lot of new people and you just see a lot more things, which can be really cool but at the same time it’s really overwhelming.”

“So, the song is me saying ‘There’s so many people coming round trying to steal something from me but I just want to have fun.'” Tkay also mentioned the album will feature a collaboration with What So Not.

TKAY is out 28th October and the Zimbabwean-born Adelaide native will be playing a string of headline dates this November in addition to appearances at Falls Festival, Yours & Owls, and next month’s BIGSOUND conference.
