Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low. So, tell us about yourselves…Who are you – who who? We really wanna know….

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

My name is Vanessa and i play guitar and sing in ‘Valentiine’ an all girl 3 piece garage rock band. Shelly on drums and vocals and Eca on bass and vocals

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parents’ record collection and why?

I couldnt help myself so I took and kept , Blondie, Daddy Cool’s greatest hits and anything that had a pretty cover at the time.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

I am so in love with ‘Joy Formidable’ right now, they are amazing. Their single ‘Whirring’ is being played to death…. I have a habit of doing that if i like something… can be very annoying for others.

‘Home taping is killing the music business’ was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

It’s just so easy to get these days and it’s on a much more impersonal level.

even though it was not ideal there was almost something beautiful about mates sharing tapes with each together etc , today it has become a lot more covert , meaningless and disposable.

everything is just too easy

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to.?Where was it and what was the venue?

I think My first introduction to live music was at a underage freezer gig in the middle of nowhere when i was about 13….. I was such a loser and still am.

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Thats a dirty question ;) I would never download and would always pay if i did, nothing is as good as holding the hard copy in your hands for me though, we can be found on iTunes which is nice for all those people who live elsewhere

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

Easy it was definitely Nina and Louise from Veruca Salt and Adalita of Magic Dirt .

Have you ever been arrested?…… hhmmmm I hope the next question doesn’t ask me for a kiddy check…… things could get messy…. (joke)

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

No I don’t , but sometimes I wish I could wear my dog ‘finch’ around my neck she is the coolest thing ever  and I hate leaving her… (that sounded weird_)

What’s been your most outrageous rider request? Shelly and Erica won’t go on stage unless they have their glass of warm milk with a sneaky dash of Akta-vite….. but sshhhh this is just between me and you they can be very difficult at times;)

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why? There are just so many great Australian artists I’m really not sure. And yes sharing is caring!

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.

We have a couple different releases , a split 7 inch , a single and we just released our very first album and it is fucking exciting! if you would like a copy then you better get down to Revolver on Sat the 2nd of july , it’s our first headline since our launch and it’s a night jam packed with awesome high energy bands. You won’t want to miss it.
