Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low.

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

My name is Jeremy and I’m the singer/lyricist/and all round classy mofugga for Melbourne hardcore metal band Venomartyr

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?

Haha I don’t think I really ever have!! I used to steal TOOL and NIN albums from my older sister though..

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

The new LEGEND album has been getting its fair share of blaring in my ears lately…also DEAD SWANS, A BETTER HOPE FOUNDATION, RECOGNIZE and AGITATOR…I’ve been in a “hardcore” tunes mood lately haha

‘Home taping is killing the music business was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

As much as financially this can hurt artists…ive seen it do great things exposure wise these days…heaps of local bands ive seen uploading their EP’s to blogspot sites so everyone can just give it a listen, spread it round etc, and at the end of the day if you’re any good people will still buy a ticket to your show, buy some merch etc. if you’re in the music bizz for money…GET OUT NOW! ;)

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to? Where was it and what was the venue?

I think it was some random channel V concert thing in fed square and went to see 28 days…haha good times

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Theres a site called ilikedyoubetterdead.com that bands can upload their EP’s, CD’s onto etc and its great for getting small bands out to people that otherwise wouldn’t know they existed…some of my new favourite bands I’ve found on that site, I’m always sure to give them props via facebook..further their exposure. I do still buy cds and dvds if I can get them, a lot of music shops don’t tend to stock a lot of bands I dig haha

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

When I heard the first Korn and Slipknot self titled albums I was blown away by how a singer could get out so much emotion, making themselves vulnerable but at the same time being such a powerful influence both vocally and lyrically. As much as there’s a negative stigma with the whole “nu metal” genre, these two albums are and always will be my all time favourites, FUCK THE HATERS ;)

Have you ever been arrested?

HAVE YOU??

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

Nothing too exciting unfortunately….bit of a warm up..stretch..jump round, psych myself up etc, and hope I don’t injure myself to severely…I tend to do a lot of apparently dangerous dumb things onstage haha

What’s been your most outrageous rider request?

Honestly…u know how hard it is to get a god damn free bottle o water these days????

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

There’s almost too many, my mind is drawing a blank but I will say one word “EFFIK”, check that shit out, he’s a genius and an awesome bloke as well!

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.

Well Venomartyr is currently in the pre pro stages of our yet to be named EP that will be released sometime this year…which we are all very excited about getting out there…its gonna tear peoples faces off! ;) in the mean time people can check out and download our demo song KISS MY APOCALYPSE on our facebook!

Oh so many rad gigs lined up…main support for Dream on Dreamer June 25th @ the village green, supporting Witchgrinder this Saturday at the Prague, plenty of awesome shows with awesome bands, again hit us up on facebook to keep updated with all our happenings!
